TSO C172 – Straps

TSO C172 – Straps

1 January 2016 marks the date which non-TSO 172 cargo no longer permits straps for use as primary restraint as per the IATA ULD Regulations. The decision to take this position was made more than a few years ago and well before the National Air Cargo crash of April 2013, the investigation into which has highlighted deficiencies with the use of straps.

The industry has had plenty of time to adjust to this new requirement, and while there are no doubt a number of non TSO 172 straps lying around in the corners of cargo sheds lets hope these will soon be on their way to “strap heaven” and no longer being used to perform safety critical cargo restraint functions.

ULD CARE fully endorses this move and we urge all our members to be taking the same position.
